These free-sanding art panels were initially inspired by shoji screens and doors that I experienced while living in Korea. The form, technique, and content have evolved to be personally mine, but the elements of translucent paper and a sense of understated balance carry through from their Asian origin. The panels have a different art "statement" on each side. Gently dividing space is the overall intent of all my screens. I use bifold hinges to give multiple configuration options. The paper on all art panels is sealed with multiple coats and will not ever stain. They pass our own rigorous splash of red wine test. The substrate of polycarbonate has been chosen for its translucent nature and unbreakable durability. These are some of my single-panel screens, I also make multi-panel screens. In early 2007 my dream of a sabbatical became reality, and I began to build pieces that had been pushing forward in my spirit for a long time. This was the first on that said, "Yes!" when it was complete. It has a rigid polycarbonate core to support all the sculptural elements and features a beautiful paper from Japan. The wood frame is of local Douglas Fir. This piece represents my transition from a box-maker to a sculptor. 2' x 6' x 20" (foot assembly)
About the artisan: , owner of Terrene Creations, designs, crafts and finishes these heirlooms in his shop in the hills near Silverton Oregon. (more about Chuck) He is constantly on the lookout for interesting woods that have high "figure" and color, and then he combines and juxtaposes them to present the intrinsic beauty of nature in an understated form. He has sold thousands of his items over the past years at art shows and galleries throughout the NorthWest, and now, they are available worldwide.
